江畑謙介が、確か文芸春秋で日本の核武装の是非についてコメントを求められた時に、
○実用に耐える核兵器の開発には、最低でも一回は、実際に核爆発を起こす核実験が必要不可欠。
○活断層だらけの地震の巣である日本列島では、地下核実験と核兵器の貯蔵を安全に行える地域が無い。
○核実験と核武装にこぎつけた国は全て、地震の心配がない安定した地層で、核実験と核兵器の貯蔵を行っている。

モラルも憲法も全く言及せず、純粋に軍事技術の見地から、日本核武装論を明確に否定していた。
日本人には珍しい、情緒に左右されない学識の人というか、とにかく筋金入りのリアリストだったと思う。
